My Fox Call Story

The Story

Last summer I was working from home and had a few windows open. I had moved into a house surrounded by farmland from the city about 3 years ago, so I was not yet familiar with the wide range wildlife in the area. I work third shift, so it is usual to hear noises coming from outside, except maybe something trying to get into the trash. This night, I learned that foxes can make a wide range of noises. What I heard were one of its calls, which sounded like a woman screaming. I quickly ran to the window to and shouted "Hello?" into the darkness. I only saw what looked like the rear end of a dog running away from my house. I knew dogs could not make this noise, but I recalled that foxes have a wide range of calls they use to communicate. I was afraid of leaving that poor woman outside by herself, but at the same time I was not equipped to handle fending off the attacker. I armed myself with a weapon and a flashlight and stepped outside to investigate. The noise was very close when I heard it, so I continued to call out to the distressed woman. I did not get a reply, not a single noise could be heard on this quiet night. I waited a few minutes for a response, then went inside to further investigate what this could have been. A person as close to my house as I heard would not be able to make a stealthy exit. I looked up a few videos on fox calls and the range of human-like noises they can make to confirm my suspicion. I had in fact, heard a fox. I was relieved to know that woman screaming was a fox goofing around in my yard!
